FHIR Facade on Existing Retail Pharmacy database

One example of using a FHIR facade on an existing retail pharmacy database is the case of Fred’s Pharmacy, a regional retail pharmacy chain in the United States. Fred’s Pharmacy wanted to integrate their pharmacy management system with external healthcare applications to improve medication adherence and patient outcomes. However, their pharmacy management system was built on legacy technology that did not support modern interoperability standards like FHIR.
To overcome this challenge, Fred’s Pharmacy implemented a FHIR facade on top of their existing pharmacy database using the Apervita platform. The FHIR facade allowed the pharmacy chain to expose their pharmacy data as FHIR resources that could be consumed by external healthcare applications. The Apervita platform acted as a middleware layer that translated the pharmacy data into FHIR resources, while also providing data validation, security, and access control.
By using a FHIR facade, Fred’s Pharmacy was able to integrate their pharmacy management system with external healthcare applications in a way that was seamless, secure, and compliant with modern healthcare standards. The FHIR facade allowed external healthcare applications to access medication-related data such as medication lists, allergies, and prescription histories in a standard format, which improved data exchange and interoperability.
Overall, this case study demonstrates the potential benefits of using a FHIR facade to integrate existing retail pharmacy databases with external healthcare applications. By leveraging the FHIR standard, retail pharmacies can improve medication adherence, patient outcomes, and operational efficiency by enabling better data exchange and interoperability with other healthcare systems and applications.
